In medieval households cooking pots were very common among people from all different backgrounds.  A cooking pot may have been more to people than simply a pot. A cooking pot may have represented security because it provided people with a basic need: cooked-food. A cooking pot is a pot that can be made out of many different types of materials and is used to cook numerous types of food.

Types of cooking pots differ regarding to their size and decoration. Cooking pots used to be made in local workshops and they had only minimal decorations. They can further be divided into two main types, those without handles and those with one handle. Their shape was adjusted for cooking on the open fireplaces or stoves typically used in that time.
