PI Radimlja / Stolac Tarča

Guided tours to the cultural and historical remains of the Old Town of Vidoški and Radmilja and Boljuni Necropolis protected by UNESCO; organising Stolac Tarča Festival devoted to reviving medieval tradition and knightly culture; tourist information dissemination; various guided tours of cultural and historical heritage sites, different workshops (swordplay, archery, bowling); presentation of medieval food and drinks

The most beautiful picture of medieval Herzegovina is the one you can see at the Stolac Tarča festival when the whole town and the Vidoški Fortress enlivens in medieval costumes. From behind the tall town walls of the fortress you can hear the metal sounds of chain mail armours and swords and shields clashing in medieval battles. Everyone is here: the ruler and the ladies in their full splendour, simple peasants and craftsmen with their wives from the subtown area. Everything is full of vivid festive atmosphere.

The manifestation is organised by PI Radmilja which manages the cultural properties of Stolac: UNESCO monumental units of Stećci (medieval tombstones) in Radmilja and Boljuni and the Old Town of Vidoški.

Nobility Life

During the 14th and 15th century when Hum Land was finally organised as a state life was rather strictly centered around a caste system. A clear hierarchy existed, a pyramid with royalty at the top and peasants, comprising the bulk of the population, at the bottom. Between the peasants and royalty, however, there were well-regarded, privileged and elite families known as vlastela or nobles. The nobles of Hum Land had different titles, functions and duties following the strict feudal hierarchy. Vlastela or the nobility of the time were divided into higher and lower nobility classes - the leading noblemen were known as velmože and the petty nobility as vlastelčići.
