Family household Moric
Medieval menu; activity holidays
From long ago the people from Luštica have been working hard to cultivate olive trees, both fighting and cooperating with nature, and have been producing olive oil. That connection between Luštica and olives has been going on for centuries and will last forever because, as they say, an olive tree is like a mother – it selflessly gives even when neglected.
By preserving the rich family heritage and fostering centuries-old love for their homeland and olive trees, the Moric family continued along their path. The estate is situated in the village of Tići, where, by respecting tradition and using modern methods, the Moric family produces organic extra virgin olive oil of superior quality.
They grow olives in their own olive groves on about five hectares of land with more than 1000 trees, and beside olive trees, they cultivate vines, fruits (figs, mulberries, almonds, plums, carob) and vegetables on their estate, but also breed sheep, donkeys, goats, chickens, ducks and rabbits. The entire estate is also planted with lavender, sage, rosemary and myrtle, so when you visit the olive grove in spring or early summer, you merely have to relax and enjoy the delightful colours and scents.
As there are no two identical wines, there are no two identical olive oils, so one needs to learn to respect and appreciate precisely these diversities. For this reason, the Moric household organises mini courses at which guests, with a tour of the olive groves and the old mill, have the opportunity to learn about the history of Luštica, cultivation and production of olives and olive oil, the importance of olive oil for health, and the uniqueness of Luštica olive oil. In order to complete the experience, they offer tasting of organic extra virgin olive oil, which is unavoidable, and the gastronomic experience of Luštica products enriched with olive oil. Local olives, cheese in olive oil, ham, salted fish, strawberry-tree brandy and carob cake are just some of the delicacies that have been prepared in the same way for centuries.
In the family tavern, which is more than 300 years old, visitors can feel the spirit of the past and particularly the rich cultural heritage. This is specially related to the stone olive mill with a press, the functionality of which even in the 21st century speaks about the wisdom and skill of old masters, and whose technical solutions we should admire even today.
