Herzegovinian Village in Medieval Period

Same as today, the life of the common people in Herzegovina in the Middle Ages was conditioned by historical and natural changes and exposed to the whims of reality. But the strong winds that sweep over the rough, karst mountains do not blow away delicate plants that grow there, they strengthen their roots. In the same way the Herzegovinian people drew their strength from the community, religion and centuries old customs, which formed their conservative spirit inspired by tradition. Therefore it is easier to give visitors a picture of the Medieval Period tradition in the rural areas where many of the medieval ethnologic matrices are kept up to nowadays some of them being the dualistic worldview, solidarity and strong bonds within small communities, believing in natural cures and medicine, superstitions and legends.
